German 2 or 3 are prerequisites for these courses. At this level, classes are conducted in German, and students learn grammar that enables them to read and understand writing created for native speakers. Students at this level also practice expressing personal opinions in spoken and written German. There is a variety of topics to choose from at this level, and they vary each year, as German 3 and 4 students meet together. Some thematic topics include: Career and Business, Future Plans and Expectations, Pop and Historical Culture, Media and Technology, Geography and Map Skills, Relationships, Fashion, Shopping, Leisure. German students are encouraged to also use German outside of the classroom. Third and fourth year students may participate in German Club, the KSU poetry contest, the National German Exam, the State German Convention competitions, the FLAG spoken language contest and in spring and summer of even numbered years, the German/American exchange.
After 3 semesters German students may also qualify for German Honor Society.
