Herzlich Willkommen!!!
FayetteCounty High School students learning German have a lot to look forward to this year. In addition to the obvious joy of learning a new language and becoming acquainted with a different culture they can participate in , . . .
, , ,German Club.
Everyone learning German is invited to join our German Club. Our aim is to get to know each other better, and experience even more about German culture. We meet once each month, and try to plan a different activity for each meeting.
Many of our activities are funded by our German Advent calendar sales that take place in November.
Please plan to buy a calendar filled with German chocolates from your favorite German student!
, , , Competition
Students of German, just like the other foreign language students, have many opportunities to complete with students at
other schools and in other states as well.
In the fall –Kennesaw State Universitysponsors a poetry writing competition for students in all levels of German.
In December - is the National German Exam. Students taking this written exam not only find out how they compare with students all over the USA, but can also win a trip to Germany.
In the spring –students of all the modern languages have the opportunity to compete in a spoken language completion hosted by the Foreign Language Association of Georgia.
But the best competition of all is State German Convention
In February -interested German students will participate in a weekend of games, competition, and camaraderie with other German students from the entire state of Georgia. It gives students many opportunities to use German and demonstrate their knowledge and ability in poetry, vocabulary, grammar, spoken communication, culture, etc.
The topic this year is Sport, Spiele und Spass [Sports, Games and Fun].
There are also “just for fun” activities like the obstacle course, lip syncing to German music and the Volktanz– where students get to try German folk dancing.
. . . the German American Exchange
Hands down the most awesome opportunity for German students is the chance to participate in the German American exchange
which takes place every second year at FCHS. We will be involved in our exchange during the 2013-2014 school year again.
Students from two high schools in Germany will come to Fayette County and live with families of participating students from FCHS and McIntosh High School for three weeks in the spring - including our spring break. Our students with then go to Hofheim am Taunus, Germany during the last two weeks of the German high school year and a week of their summer vacation.
Students will participate in a number of interesting and educational field trips both here and in Germany in addition to learning about and participating in school activities in the guest country. Host families will also have the opportunity to show their guests what
makes their country special.
It is an incredible learning and travel opportunity for students. The costs are reasonable because each host family supports its guest student. The only other costs are the cost of the flight (we all fly together) and pocket money for gifts or incidentals. The cost of the field trips for the guest students both here and in Germany are born by a grant from GAPP – German
American Partnership Program that we apply for each time and by the German program. German student sell German Advent Calendars each year to fund this program. PLEASE plan to sell and buy Germany Advent Calendars this year.
All students benefit from the program even if they are unable to participate in the exchange. They get to meet and interact with the
German students while they are our guests in Fayetteville.
